Cette oeuvre appartient à la série « l’envol des Cigognes » , réalisée par Jilali Gharbaoui à la suite de sa séparation avec Thérèse Boersma. Réfugié au monastère de Tioumliline, l’artiste trouve dans la figure de la cigogne un puissant miroir de sa propre condition. Oiseau réputé pour son attachement durable à un seul partenaire, la cigogne devient ici le symbole d’un amour perdu et d’une solitude désormais assumée.

Dans les premiers dessins de la série, deux présences se répondent encore. Progressivement, l’une disparaît ne demeure alors qu’une silhouette isolée, réduite à quelques traits d’encre d’une intensité remarquable. Gharbaoui ne cherche pas à décrire l’oiseau mais à traduire un état intérieur : celui de l’absence, du manque et de la séparation.

This work belongs to the series ‘The Flight of the Storks’, created by Jilali Gharbaoui following his separation from Thérèse Boersma. Taking refuge at the monastery of Tioumliline, the artist found in the figure of the stork a powerful reflection of his own condition. A bird renowned for its enduring attachment to a single partner, the stork here becomes a symbol of lost love and a solitude now embraced.

In the early drawings of the series, the two figures still respond to one another. Gradually, one disappears, leaving only an isolated silhouette, reduced to a few ink strokes of remarkable intensity. Gharbaoui does not seek to depict the bird but to convey an inner state: that of absence, loss and separation.
